Moving With Kids

Moving is always a bit stressful - there's so much to keep track of and usually a short amount of time to get it all done. Don't forget that kids can feel overwhelmed or even scared to be moving.  Here are some tips for helping your kids get through ti.

♦ Always project a positive attitude around your kids.

♦ Do what you can to manage your stress level - delegate tasks, be organized and ask for help if needed.

♦ Buy a special address book so your child can record addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of their friends.

♦ If possible, bring your kids along when you look at houses.

♦ Gather information on the sports or other extra-curricular activities that interest your child.

♦ Before you move, hold a going-away party for your kids with their friends and family members.

♦ Create a scrapbook or photo album of the old house.

♦ Help the kids unpack their rooms first.

♦ Be consistent with discipline.

♦ Take your child to visit his or her new school and arrange to meet the teachers.

♦ Supply your children with copies of your new address and phone number to give to friends.

♦ When you move into your new home, begin a new scrapbook or journal and have your child to write about his or her hopes
and expectations at the new home.
